The attorneys at Riddle & Brantley are pursuing claims on behalf of women who have taken Lipitor and have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
Studies have linked Lipitor® – one of America’s best-selling prescription drug – to an increased risk of diabetes in women. While the medication has been effective for reducing cholesterol for some users, it also has serious, potentially life-threatening side effects that lead to diseases like diabetes.
Its manufacturer – Pfizer – should be held accountable for the deadly, adverse side effects that have affected patients without warning.
The entire team of legal professionals at Riddle & Brantley are committed to our clients, and we have the knowledge and experience to take on the pharmaceutical industry to pursue justice on their behalf. We aggressively pursue a favorable verdict or settlement in defective and dangerous drug cases.

Sales of Lipitor exceed $12 billion each year. Despite its massive following, Lipitor is a dangerous drug that may have caused pain and suffering and even death.
In 2012 the Federal Drug Administration required Pfizer to provide additional information on the side-effects of the drug after it failed to warn patients of the link between high blood sugar and Lipitor. If your family has been affected by the potentially deadly side effects of Lipitor, you may have a claim for a lawsuit and could be eligible for compensation.
Lipitor’s generic name is atorvastatin, which is part of a class of drugs called “statins”. Statin drugs are used to reduce cholesterol levels; they do this by blocking the enzyme in the liver that produces cholesterol.
Specifically, Lipitor lowers the levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and total cholesterol. Left untreated, high cholesterol can lead to hardening of the arteries, and cause heart disease. (Hardened arteries and heart disease are both known contributors to vascular disease, heart attack and stroke.)
Lipitor was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the fall of 2005. Other statin drugs beside atorvastatin with potentially harmful side effects include:
- Brands: Lescol
- Brands: Advicor, Altoprev, Mevacor
- Brands: Livalo, Pravachol
- Brands: Crestor
- Simvastatin & Niacin
- Brands: Simcor
- Brands: Simcard, Simlup, Simvacor, Zocor
- Simvastatin & Ezetimibe
- Brands: Vytorin
All of these drugs are used to treat high cholesterol. Use of any drug in the statin class has been linked to a higher risk for Type 2 Diabetes in women.
Before 2012 the drug was marketed as safe and it was unknown that Lipitor and statin drugs had a direct correlation to a higher rate of developing many life-threatening conditions.
However, when the FDA discovered data that affirmed the truly dangerous nature of this prescription drug, it required Pfizer to change the warning labels on Lipitor’s packaging, which previously did not provide adequate information.
