Does Death Wish Coffee Live Up to Its Name? Some products contain deadly defectsDeath Wish Coffee company has advertised its “Death Wish Coffee” as the strongest in the world. The company claims that one cup of its coffee contains multiple times more caffeine than a regular cup. However, Death Wish Coffee may have unintentionally lived up to its name. According to the company, its 11oz cans of nitro-brewed Death Wish Coffee could promote the growth of Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that produce botulinum toxins. These toxins cause botulism poisoning when ingested. Botulism is a life-threatening medical condition that attacks your nervous system. The World Health Organization (WHO) considers botulinum toxins to be among the deadliest substances on the planet. Death Wish Coffee Company said the toxins may develop due to the nature of the manufacturing process. Botulinum spores can grow in low-acid and low-oxygen environments. Death Wish Coffee is created and canned under these conditions, hence the potential botulism risk. The company has urged customers to return cans of Death Wish Coffee for a refund. There are presently no cases of botulism caused by Death Wish Coffee. The product will not be sold again until changes are made to the manufacturing process.

What Are the Effects of Botulism?

Botulism is very rare and is sometimes caused by ingesting foods with botulism toxins. The Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) list of symptoms should give anyone pause before opening a can of Death Wish Coffee. According to the CDC, botulism may cause drooping eyelids, paralysis, slurred speech and double-vision. If the condition progresses without medical treatment, the muscles that control breathing may be paralyzed. Even the health effects of surviving botulism poisoning are incredibly unpleasant. Not only is the condition an emotionally traumatic experience, people may experience paralysis and other symptoms long after being poisoned. Botulism poisoning can put you in the hospital for months and destroy your ability to earn income. Rehabilitation services may also be necessary.
